Assalamualaikum,

Hi Lalat! (Still remember me?) I hope so. If you have forgotten
all about me (That hurts, you know) or if my email's nick didn't
trigger your memory (How could it not? Everybody in school called
me by that nick, well...except you), then we'll just have to start
introducing ourselves all over again, won't we? (Hehe...nice
icebreaker, don't you think?).

I was your classmate for 2 years; 4 and 5 Alpha classes. Before that
I knew you from the other girls, especially from dormmates Margie and
Ayuri. They talked a lot! (No, not always about you, hehe). Once Ayuri
yelled out "Teruknya!" so loud, I just had to ask her what was (or
rather 'who was'). That was the first time I heard the name 'Lalat'.
Well...OK, not the first time. But that was when I wanted to know more.

Oh come on, can you picture my face now?

In school, you never talked to me or even say 'Hi'. Not even when we
were in the same class (How dare you). Margie said that you are an
introvert and hard to talk to (I didn't believe her). I just think that
you are very, very shy. I always saw you cracking out jokes with the
guys especially poking fun at PokNik (He was so innocent!). So from
my observations, I knew I was right about you: you're afraid of girls,
aren't you? Hehe...the important question is: are you still?

From now onwards, I'd assume you have already remembered me.

While in 5 Alpha, you sat next to Ariff at the back of the classroom and
I sat right under the front fan, just beside Ayuri. Ayuri hated that
seat of her because it was just in front of PokNik's. He was so messy!
(It was difficult to accept that PokNik was really a genius in maths).
Everytime I turned around and face the class, I saw you either cracking
a new joke to Ariff or being buried deep under those piles of books.
Most often, you would either be scribbling or punching the calculator.

I was afraid to say this then, but: you scared me! (hehe...sorry)

Ugh...you really looked dead serious when you are in your own world,
do you know that? Other girls mocked you 'The Brick Wall' because of
that. Sometimes when Margie or me walked pass you along the class
corridor, you just didn't care to even look! (Sorry about the tone).
We had to think twice before approaching you with a homework question
and usually none of us would even dared to think about it. Seriously!
You rarely smiled or showed joy. Don't you smile at anybody at all?

Oh...I am so sorry for saying all of that (But it's all true though).

However, I do admit that the way you were (behavior, dressing, attitude
and intelligence) really presented you in a kinda mystical aura. Very
intriguing, really unique. Maybe that was why everybody respected you
like they had, and that group of everybody included me (Hehe...funny eh?)
I think you started receiving the spotlight after winning 3rd on the
National Science Quiz. The buzz in Aspuri was like madness! From the
juniors up to the wardens, everybody wanted a piece of story on you.

I bet nobody has told you this, huh? I guess, this email is for that.

But still, with all the glamour and fame, everyday for you is like
nothing (Sorry about the tone again!). I guess you were really hard to
be impressed. I know that you didn't need all of that, but still you
could at least acknowledge it. I pity those juniors who looked up to
you (especially after SPM got out) but never had the chance to really
know you. You didn't open yourself up to anybody, did you? (Sighs)

(OK, let's change the subject). Anyway, I thought of emailing you again
today after reading your essay "My Favorite Hideout" from the Mozac 1998
webpage at Ecircles.com. I still remember Puan Norizah asked you to read
that essay of yours in class out loud. I personally like it; you really
are good in essay writing (especially in English). Aren't you going to
pursue that talent further anyday now? Oh wait a minute, you're a ChemE
major now, right? (Good luck! I heard that it's tough)

Hm...oh my! I've been talking (read: emailing) too long! Oh so sorry!

Well, gotta go. Sorry for bothering you. Write back if you have time.
See you, bye! (My mom's going to kill me for staying online this late).

P/S: I attach to you this picture of us during the Malam Seribu Bintang
1998 event. Others were crying so much; it should be renamed 'Malam
Seribu Tangis 1998' (Hehe...guess not). Thanks for letting me have this
small piece of memory of you with me. At least I could say "I got him to
pose and smile for me!". Hehe...thanks again.
