From left to right: Not Anna, Not Baby.

Anna and Baby

When the food that was ordered almost an hour ago finally arrived at the table, there erupted a joyous and lively group hurrah coming from all those who sat waiting for it; the twin brothers, Rahmat and Samad, the one with the baggy FUBU jeans and the other one who dressed smartly for the occasion, respectively, cheered the loudest of the hurrah, for they waited long for it, and impatiently at it too, and they felt that they earned the food the most; “Thank you for taking us out to a dinner and a movie, guys; Shrek 2 was hilarious”, said Anna, one of the two girls, “Finally, you guys were brave enough to ask for a double date with me and Baby, after years of going to the same school.”

“So, for that”, Baby quickly added, “…the food is on us, okay?”

In unison, their mouths stuffed with food, the twins replied: “Okay!”

Baby, the one with the fairer skin complexion, looked at Anna, and Anna, the one with the frailer fingers, looked at Baby in response, and they exchanged smiles.

   “Like clowns, these two.”

And so, the two pair of couples sat and ate and chat, and although it was yet to be determined, or agreed upon, which one of them gets to have which one of them; is Rahmat for Baby, and Samad for Anna?; or, is Samad for Baby, and Rahmat for Anna?; the double date went almost as smoothly as both parties had hoped dearly for -- the movie was unanimously voted “the best we’ve seen this year!”, and the conversations between the four of them were casual, funny and highly animated. The night ship was sailing towards the desired destination.

Then, suddenly, halfway through, Anna stopped eating her mee sup, only barely touching it, saying that she was not that hungry in the first place, and crossed her arms across her flat chest as she watched the three of them continued on eating; Rahmat ordered and ate nasi goreng USA, and he seemed to like it a lot; Samad ordered and ate mee hailam, and he seemed to like it a lot, too; Baby ordered and ate nasi ayam special, and she seemed to like her food a lot, too. In fact, she seemed to like it more than the twins liked their foods put together. But just as this interesting fact began to sink in--

“Anna, come with me to the restroom. Guys, excuse us for a minute?”

--Baby said, as she looked at Anna, and Anna looked at her in response, and they exchanged a previously different type of smile: a quick, forced and secretive smile.

“Oh, sorry, yes, sure, we don’t mind, it’s cool”, the twins goofily replied.

The girls first chuckled at their inane, blushing response, and then off they went to the ladies. And as they walked away from the table, the twins could not help but feel mighty lucky for finally hooking up with the two most beautiful girls in school. But just how truly fortunate were the boys, one might ask; for, unbeknownst to them, the two most beautiful girls in school were: Anna, the anorexic, and Baby, the bulimic.
